October 11th — that's day one if you want door 21 to land on Halloween night.

Nothing forces you to, though. Start late and open two a day to catch up, or ignore the dates completely and open one whenever you feel like it. The numbers are a suggestion, not a lock.

What does matter is having it in your hands before the 11th. Work backwards from that when you order.

Most of the time, yes. The charms use the standard large-hole fitting, so they slide onto the usual European-style snake chains and clip onto most link bracelets and necklaces.

You don't need one, though — two bracelets come in the box. The compatibility just means the collection isn't trapped in here. Charms move onto a necklace, a keyring, a zip pull, a bag strap, whatever you already wear.

Silver-tone metal alloy, with hand-painted enamel detailing on the coloured pieces and patterned glass on the beads. They have real weight in the hand — they don't feel like plastic.

Keep them dry and they hold their finish. Take the bracelet off before a shower or a swim, and store it in the box between wears rather than loose in a bag where the enamel can scuff.

It's a hit with kids from around 8 and up, and it's just as often bought by adults for themselves.

Not suitable for under-3s. The charms and beads are small parts and a choking hazard for little ones, so keep the box out of reach of toddlers and give younger children a hand with the clasp.

Roughly the footprint of a hardback book, and flat enough to sit on a shelf or a bedside table without taking the room over.

The lid is printed edge to edge and the doors are die-cut into it, so it looks the part sitting out on display for three weeks — not like packaging waiting to be thrown away.
